David has worked in and managed residential care homes serving adolescents in crisis, hospice, senior care, physically challenged people and developmentally disabled people. He was greatly influenced by the independence movement that swept residential care, and he supported people moving from institutional living to small group home environments throughout his career. David believes that every resident has the right to enjoy a safe and loving environment, just as everyone else in the culture expects from their “home”. And finally, every ‘home’ must be run for the convenience of the people who live there; not for the convenience of the people who work there. David was drawn to Alegria because of its’ embrace of an holistic approach, and the depth of supportive services that it can draw upon. He has served as an HA for over three years.
